Basically, I want to gauge interest in what one would call a draft LAN, and in doing so introduce some of the newer players in the community (heck, even give ones that have never lanned before) and give them an opportunity to play with some of the better, established players.
Players will sign up on an individual basis, rather than as a team, and will be put into a seed pool. On the day, players will be drawn from the pools to create a 'pug team' who will then proceed to play in a round robin.
I would like to know who would be interested? Any suggestions people might have are welcomed.
This will not be a $30 entry event as I will not be looking to create a prizepool, rather give players the opportunity to mingle and play with people outside of their regular groups.
As I said, I am completely open to suggestions, so fire away!

3 guys book a room at a hotel, they pay $10 each for the night ($30 total) they go up to their room and start to unpack. The girl at the reception realises that she has charged them too much, and the room was only meant to be $25 for the night! she ushers over the bellboy and tells him to take the $5 up to their room and give it to them. On his way up the bellboy thinks about it, and decides you cannot possibly split the $5 amongst the 3 men, so he gives them each a $1 coin. and pockets the last $2.
so, in summary, the 3 men have paid $9 each, and the bellboy has pocketed $2
9 x 3 = 27 + 2 = 29, keeping in mind that they originally paid $30, where has the extra $1 gone?

A gotfrag post or news item should cover them Saucers. I reckon a post here and there, Internode forums, GA forums (if anyone actually reads them) and a few other places like Combat Zone should canvas a fair few pub/online players interested in having a crack at LAN.

Ok after reading this thread many ideas shouldnt be implemented (not being rude at all)
I have run a few of these lans for GotGames. The way it works best I feel is this.
Entry fee - Only to cover net cafe costs - Add $5 to it for a little win incentive. You want to keep the fee as low as possible so you can market the event as a fun day not a serious and competitive day.
Picking - Captains are picked before the event, you really need to get the top tier teams involved. qmx,eM,ath etc. The whole idea is to promote the idea of becoming the best to the newer players. So playing with more expierience players is great for them.
Picking teams - Dont seed it. Have the captains names in a hat at the start of the day. Pick out one by one to see who picks first - last. Write down on a piece of paper every players names, cross them off once they have been picked. Make a rule that no more than 2 players from the same team can play together to stop the same group playing together.
Format - round robin (2 groups of 6 teams if 60 players enter). top 2 of each group make finals.
In regards to source players, let me know if this is going ahead and ill post up on GotGames - 98% of the source community is here). Source players will play, I know for a fact a couple will. We can then bring other players and just word of mouth spread it.

Vex has the right idea, but i still dont see how it will work if captains are allowed to choose their own players becuase if i was a captain i could end up with:

The seeds should be done VERY roughly, but each captain is selected before the event then draws one name out of 4 different hats. Each hat containing player names of what the admins have deemed to be players of similar standard and then u will end up with 1A 1B 1C 1D 1E on each team and every team will have an equal chance of winning.
*EDIT*
this draw can be done in a booth with only the captains and the admins so each player doesnt know what they got seeded as to not offend any players, every1 just walks out of the booth knowing who is on their team.

#69. You dont pick all your 5 players at once.
Captain 1 - Picks 1 player
Captain 2 - Picks 1 player
Once you reach captain 6 you go back to the start.
Captain 1 - Picks 1 player.
You keep this rotation right to the end. So noone has the option of picking two people at once, hence not being able to form a super team.
And yes, you pick in a booth to keep it secret. You dont want the last 5 players feeling like dog cause they got picked last lol.

This will only work if a captain/IGL picks teams. If teams arent fair, thats down to stupidty of an IGL and admins could step in and make a trade or kill burton.
